Dental Implants: Single Tooth Replacement

Dental implant surgery is a restorative solution for replacing single or multiple teeth. This type of procedure is highly recommended as a secure, long-term solution for teeth replacement and is designed to be fully functional, as well as look and feel like natural teeth.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a tooth restoration option that consists of three parts:

The screw (or post) – A titanium screw that is surgically placed into the bone beneath the gums to provide a permanent “root” replacement for your new crown.

The prosthetic crown – A customized crown created by your dentist will match with the rest of your teeth for a natural look and feel.

The abutment – This piece will connect your crown to the screw/post. The combination of these three parts creates a completely secure tooth replacement.

Single Tooth Replacement

Single-tooth dental implants can be used for teeth that have experienced decay or trauma. They do not compromise the health of adjacent teeth and are integrated with your jaw bone to mimic a healthy root.

Procedure

In the first step of single tooth replacement surgery, a dental implant is placed in the bone where your tooth is missing and covered with a temporary cap while it heals. During the healing time, the screw/post integrates with the jaw bone, which creates a permanent bond in the mouth. After achieving this bond, the crown will be attached by the abutment, which finalizes the procedure. With the customized crown, your tooth will look and feel just like the rest of your teeth, and you’ll be able to floss and brush all the same.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants have a variety of benefits that you can’t necessarily achieve with other forms of dental restoration. If you’re considering alternative options such as removable dentures, fixed bridges, or full-arch dentures, dental implants could provide a more permanent and healthier solution. The benefits of dental implants include:

  • Permanent tooth replacement with proper care
  • Natural feel, function, and appearance
  • Mimics real tooth structure
  • Preserves jaw bone health
  • Stable, secure bite
  • Eat and enjoy favorite foods
  • Increases self-confidence
